BOARDING HOUSE REACH vede Jack White espandere il suo gusto musicale con quello che forse è il progetto più ambizioso fino ad ora Scritto e concepito mentre era rintanato in un appartamento senza distrazioni dal mondo esterno, White ha utilizzato le stesse attrezzature che usava quando aveva 15 anni (un registratore a nastro, un semplice mixer e delle strumentazioni basiche) L’album esplora una vasta gamma di suoni, passando da generi diversissimi tra loro, come rock‘n’roll, funk elettronico, proto punk, hip hop, gospel, blues e persino il country, rielaborandoli fino ad ottenere una visione sperimentale, il più vicina possibile a White Nell’album Jack White è alla voce, alla chitarra acustica e a quella elettrica, alla batteria, all’organo e ai sintetizzatori ed accompagnato da una nuova lineup: : il batterista Louis Cato (Beyoncé, Q-Tip, John Legend, Mariah Carey), i bassisti Charlotte Kemp Muhl (The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger) e NeonPhoenix (Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Jay- Z), ai synth DJ Harrison e Anthony Brew Brewster (Fishbone, The Untouchables), i tastieristi Neal Evans (Soulive, Talib Kweli, John Scofield) e Quincy McCrary (Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Pitbull), i percussionisti Bobby Allende (David Byrne, Marc Anthony) e Justin Porée (Ozomatli), e le coriste Esther e Ann Rose & Regina McCrary del trio gospel di Nashville, The McCrary Sisters L’album però vede la collaborazione anche di musicisti di vecchia data come i batteristi Daru Jones (Nas, Talib Kweli) e Carla Azar (Autolux, Depeche Mode, Doyle Bramhall II) Tra i credits appare anche il cantautore CW Stoneking, che ha contribuito con una performance di spoken word nel brano Abulia and Akrasia BOARDING HOUSE REACH è stato prodotto da Jack White ed è stato registrato presso gli studi della Third Man a Nashville, al Sear Sound di New York e ai Capitol Studios di Los Angeles L’album è stato mixato da Bill Skibbe, Joshua V Smith e White al Third Man Studio di Nashville
