“Canzoni a tradimento “ is Sam Paglia’s tenth album. After 9 instrumental albums, here for the first time, he sings all the songs. Sam, born in 1971, is the most prolific and original organist in Italy. He’s been playing Hammond organ since 1996. His music is a blend of jazz, funk , bossa nova and soul with a style that could be put somewhere in between Piero Umiliani’s charming compositions and the groovy organ of Jimmy McGriff. Sam Paglia is very well known as “The Godfather of lounge”, his two first album “B-movie heroes” and “Nightclubtropez” published by Irma records in 1998 and 2000 , became immediately two best seller and classics for the international lounge scene. This time Sam has chosen to do something different writing and singing his own material, playing acoustic and electric piano (but also Mini Moog and Clavinet) instead of Hammond organ. The album is a sort of “betrayal” ( the album title “Canzoni a tradimento” in Italian means “betrayal songs”) to whom would expect from Sam another jazzy instrumental album. The album is also an hommage to some of the greatest Italian songwriters of the past: Paolo Conte, Jannacci and Bruno Lauzi above all. Produced by Daniele Bengi Benati, a very well known italian artist and musician, the album is played by Sam’s trio: Michele Iaia on drums and Peppe Conte at the guitar and bass plus some guests. “Canzoni a tradimento” is available on vinyl, CD and tape. |
